“A multilevel model approach to examining tobacco-related health disparities”
Abstract: Although tobacco use has declined in the U.S. over the past decade, racial/ethnic minoritized groups and communities with low socioeconomic status (SES) carry the largest disease burden from tobacco-related disease in the U.S. In this presentation, Dr. Tan will discuss her work using advanced statistical methodologies to examine racial/ethnic disparities in post-cessation weight gain (i.e., weight gain attributable to quitting smoking) and biomarkers of inflammation. She will also give a brief overview of her research on adapting tobacco cessation interventions to increase access for low SES populations.
