Two summer enrichment programs are currently accepting applications from motivated visiting undergraduate students to join the neuroscience laboratories at the University of Chicago.
THE PROGRAMS
- Dynamic Experiences in Neuroscience to Diversify Research Internship Training Exposures for Students (DENDRITES) aims to encourage and support the research and career development of students interested in basic, clinical, and translational neuroscience.
- Developing Access to Research in Neuroscience (DARN) takes advantage of the extensive neurobiology research across various departments (Organismal Biology and Anatomy, Human Genetics, Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and others) to engage students in rigorous research experiences.
Both programs will host visiting undergraduate students for an intensive eight-week research program under the guidance of faculty mentors. The programs include exposure to cutting-edge research methods and aim to solidify students' commitment to pursuing research careers. Research activities for both programs will be conducted in host laboratories across the UChicago campus. Additionally, the programs foster interactions among students, expose them to research outside their immediate interests, develop professional skills, and help build personal networks with colleagues within and outside the University.
Eligibility
First-, second-, and third-year students from external institutions are encouraged to apply (UChicago undergraduate students are not eligible). To be eligible, you must have at least one academic year remaining after your participation in these programs. We welcome students who are currently enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities.
The program runs from June 16th to August 8th, 2025, and you must be available during these dates.
Compensation
Each participant will receive a $5,100 summer stipend (you will receive $2,550 during the first week of the program. After the successful completion of the program, you will receive the remaining $2,550), housing, and flights to and from Chicago will also be covered.
APPLICATIONS:
To apply to DENDRITES and DARN, students must submit an application using the link provided below. Submissions will be reviewed by both programs. Applications are due on April 18, 2025, or until positions are filled. Each application requires the following:
- CV
- A statement describing your interest in science, research experiences that you’ve participated in, and any additional information that you think would help the committee
- Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
Please visit the Neuroscience Faculty list and the Department of Neurology faculty list and indicate the names of three faculty members you would like to work with.
